Malaysian Adventure
Malaysia…
It’s a country just up north the border of Singapore. Some people say that if you blew up the part that connects Singapore and Malaysia, Singapore would wander off aimlessly from the continent of Asia. I don’t know if that is true but I don’t want to find out. Err.. Until I get out of Singapore though. Then we can find out if it’s true or not.
Anyway, back to Malaysia. My kid brother, Coco, recently went on a hiatus here last June 2 to 11. Which is the reason why I did not have enough time for myself and whatever I want to do. I haven’t practiced on my guitar for quite some time and my mad skills are deteriorating as fast as Superman’s powers when exposed to Kryptonite. I have been ignoring my chores so far this month of June. I know that I should do my laundry weekly but I tend to do it only when there are no clothes left in my cabinet. If that wasn’t bad enough, after laundry, I have to iron the clothes. So it’s something that I ned to focus on. I also need to clean my room. My room looks like a tornado passed by. Mmmm… To be honest, a room ran over by a tornado would look a lot better than my place right now.
Argh… I’m driftng out of Malaysia again. Let’s get back to Malaysia for a moment. My brother came to Singapore on June 2, 2007 for a long vacation. He was scheduled to stay here for 9 whole days. Which is quite short if you want to travel around Singapore and get to see the whole country. Personally, I think the Philippines is a better place to visit than Singapore. We have a lot more natural resources to marvel at.
For the first two days of my brothers vacation was to be spent in Malaysia. When he flew in at 1:30 AM of June 2, we were supposed to sleep for a few hours then go to Malaysia at 8 AM the same day. Which is like the Amazing Race. ;p
Anyway, we slept for a few hours when he came in and we went to our bus to go to Malaysia. Now this was one long trip. It’s a six hour bus ride from Singapore to the city of Kuala Lumpur. I don’t know what Kuala Lumpur means but it does sound like something nice. Taking the bus here is a totally different experience here than the ones we have in Manila. The bus services here only seat 25 people and the seats are big and comfy and you can even slide it out to turn into a bed.
Once in Malaysia, you will notice a few things about the people and the place. Let me list them down.
Top Things You Notice About the People in Kuala Lumpur
1. Taxi drivers are worst than the ones in Manila
- They never want to use their meter when you take a ride. They name their price. And if you come by a taxi that uses the meter, the damn meter is rigged!!! I think I can count the number of good taxis that I rode in Kuala Lumpur.
2. People here don’t like to show skin.
- I think this is pretty obvious since Malaysia is a Muslim dominant country. The women cover themselves up and I found it pretty weird seeing a group of women and all you see is their eyes.
3. They speak better english in Malaysia than in Singapore
- For the first time, I got to speak to a lot of people and I can understand them. Even if they have a bit of accent to their english, I would give their english a passing mark.
4. People there like orange food
- I don’t know why but I noticed that their food is always orange and has a spicy taste and almost always fried.
5. They are a peaceful country
- Muslims in this country are not like the ones we see in the news. The people are actually friendly and nice ![]()
Ok. So the folks in Malaysia are very nice. Except for the ^*(&)*()* Taxi drivers.
So whats the best places to go to here? We only had two days to go around so we had to do the Amazing Race tour, so to speak. Here is the list of places we went to.
1. Petronas Tower
- This is one nice building. One of the most famous buildings in Asia and the world. Was once the tallest building in the world but you can’t be the best forever. This was quite nice. I enjoyed going up the Skybridge to see the sights of the city.
2. KL Tower
- One of the tallest towers in the world comparable to the Space Needle in Seattle. YOu have to go here on a Sunny day or else you won’t enjoy it that much. We went there on a rainy day and the clouds covered up the view. You can’t see anything!!!
3. The Malls
- For some reason, designer clothes are way cheaper here than in Singapore. I got the bag I wanted in Singapore for almost half the price.
4. The bars and night spots.
- Beer and alcohol, anything else you need?
All in all, my two day Malaysian trip was nice. I got to spend some time with my brother and I got to spend some time with my girlfriend (and soon to be wife
).
Some things that you have to do when you go there.
1. Reserve bus tickets going there early.
2. Make hotel reservations.
3. Book you’re return bus ride as early as possible.
4. Bring money so as to shop as much as you can.
