Been a while Part I
Oh man! It’s been a while since I logged in to this blog machine. How many weeks has it been? Two? Three? I can’t even keep count. All I know is it has been a long while since I used by keyboard to speak up on my behalf. I do hope my very few loyal readers would read on.
So the big question is: Why did it take me this long to update my blog. The answer is simple ladies and gentlemen as I am about to explain. Since February 14, 2007, I had been visited by aliens. Aliens like me. They came here to give me a visit and what a lovely bunch of aliens I might add.
Yes and Yes! We are aliens and we do not belong here in Singapore. Why? Because Pinoy ako! Hehehe… I need to borrow that from bamboo
I am proud to be Pinoy and I will never ever give it up for any promise of a better life. Sure, the Philippines maybe dirty and full of corruption and everything. But it’s my home. It’s where I cam from. I will forever be thankful that I came from a place called the Philippines and I’m happy how my life turned out to be.
Anyway, I’m not a psychic but if you’re still reading this, it means there’s a question in your mind. I know what you’re thinking. So what did happen to me during those few weeks I have been gone? If you’re not asking that to yourself, seriously, stop reading this very sentence and go to youtube or something. Seriously. Just kidding. Read on.
February 14, 2007 was one of the most exciting days of my stay here in Singapore. Why? If you’re asking that. I’m going to tell you that skipping the first part of this blog is a mistake.
I was waiting for Valentine’s day because this has been one of those things that has been planned since the year 2006. Me and my friends coming to Singapore. But I guess the guy upstairs has His own plan because he sent me ahead. I went here last year but the plan was not scrapped. They were scheduled to arrive that day.
I kept calling and texting them all morning. Asking them where they were, what terminal they were coming in to and what time they were coming in. After work, I was so pumped up to leave the office that I messed up on some stuff at work. After work, I went to the airport to meet them up. Funny thing was, I asked them which terminal they were coming out of. They said terminal 1. I was there on the dot. But to my surprise, the flight they were in wasn’t there. I messed up! They were at the other terminal! Oh my! I had to take the skytrain and take the stupid shuttle to get to them. Thirty minutes. That was the time it tool for me to get to them. By that time, I was already 40 minutes late. So much for my excitement to see them.
As I was walking to the arrival area, I saw a familiar figure not far away from me. It was Art. It was so nice to see an old friend. We exchanged pleasantries and all that guy stuff we need to do. High five, pat on the back. Yo my brotha man!
The next one I saw was katz and B1. Katz was funny because all she did was smile and laugh when she saw me. Honestly, I thought I had dirt on my face or something. Or maybe it’s just my face that was funny to her. But still. it was nice to see her. B1 was his usual jolly self. MY former boss and good friend. We did all that macho routine again that I did with Art. Come to think of it, I don’t know where I got that habit but every guy seems to know how to do it. I think it’s our primal instincts kicking in.
Then there was Rona. I think she was so happy to see me but she scared me a bit. When she saw me, she was walking in small steps than shaking her hands and making that face where she was smiling and making this weird mini scream. Honest! It scared me a bit. But I know she was happy to see me. So was I. I gave her a big fat (no pun intended) hug. Claire was already there at the airport with them when I came along. So much for being 10 minutes away from the airport.
After that, we went to Claire’s place. That is at the other side of Singapore. If you want to have a rough idea of how far my place and their place is, look below:
Route Distance : 30.69 Km Linear Distance : 26.41 Km Estimate Traveling Time : 28 mins
That is 20.46 minutes running at 90 KPH without slowing down. How did I come up with that number? It is fairly simple. You divide the route distance with your average speed then multiply it by 60 to get the number of minutes of traveling time.
The formula can be seen below:
Route Distance (Km) X 60 minutes / Hour = total time in minutes
——————–
90 Km / Hour
Do you realize how far that place is? In Singapore, that’s already cross country traveling.
After settling down at Claire’s place, I finally met her housemates. Carmel and Karen. A nice bunch of people. Really nice to be with.
You know what’s the nice thing about us Filipinos? When we’re together even if we just met, we act like we’ve known each other for a while. We tell stories and experiences which makes our lives really easy. Maybe it’s just the thought of sharing with someone who speaks your own language that makes us all warm inside.
Anyway, as we were chatting at Claire’s place, we were eating the chicharon that I really, really missed. Lapid’s chicharon! Thanks to Rona and Tseri for this one. I couldn’t stop eating it. I know it’s bad for my health, but what the heck! I love chicharon. I was like a kid.
Nice people.
After having that sumptuous meal, we decided to eat out and have dinner. It was kinda late but it was okay since none of us had real food for dinner. We went to this pizza place near Claire’s place and pigged out. We even invited our friend Obray to eat with us.
Hungry people
Syempre may solo pic ako.
It was a nice meal. Eating out with friends. Having small talk and just joking around. How I missed that when I was back home. I used to do that everyday.
When all was said and done, it was finally time to go home. I have work the following day and I needed to catch some sleep.
What a beautiful first day.
